Sticking Together
Approaches to Collage & Assemblage
We live in a time of fragmentation, socially and personally. While it could be argued this has always been the case, artists today have found unique ways to both reflect and challenge these conditions. Many artists respond to this fragmentation through the surprising combination of elements that already exist in the world. Collage, assemblage, photomontage, quilting, installation, and ad hoc applications of mixed media are inherently suited to paradox, multiple viewpoints, and plurality, serving up aesthetic harmony to help us make sense out of the chaos. Artlink was excited to offer this call-for-entry to artists who are stepping into the fragmentation, bringing together new ways of seeing and thinking through these creative strategies.
