Artlink Contemporary Gallery is pleased to present Influences: The Connection Between Educator and Student, curated by Trevor Campbell.
Curator Statement
The fluid transfer of creative practices between the student and educator abounds within the high school art classroom. Common interests in subject matter or conceptual ideas, various sources of shared inspirations, unique approaches and finishes become visible and tangible in works, both hung with pride in the hallway or out in the public. This influence between the educator and the student, however, is not one directional - students have a profound impact on the educator’s work as well. Oftentimes, we as art educators feed off of the enthusiasm and passions with those we get to work with. The curious and inquisitive mind of the adolescent, especially within a creative environment, is hard for us to ignore.
This group exhibition will highlight the creative work of regional high school art educators and their students. Educator artwork and student artwork will be shown side by side, manifesting the influence and the impact made by those instructing and guiding the next generation of artists and vice versa. - Trevor Campbell

About the Curator
Trevor Campbell is a local Fort Wayne artist and educator. He teaches high school Visual Arts at Canterbury High School. Trevor graduated from Ball State University in 2016 with a degree in Visual Arts Education and a minor in Art History. He has exhibited work in Indiana, Missouri, and Virginia. In 2017, he received first place at PFW’s Art Educator exhibition for his work, “Manifest Destiny,” received the 2022 Outstanding Educator Award in the Scholastic Art and Writing Competition, was a featured artist on PBS’s “arts IN focus”, and most recently was nominated for an Art’s United Award. In 2023, he was named a Lilly Teacher Creativity Fellow for his proposal, “Mimesis of Migrations: Following and Drawing the Great Migrations to Alaska.” Outside of making art and teaching, he enjoys traveling and backpacking, and spending time with his wife, Grace, and two dogs, Scout and Moose.
