COMPACT: Small Works of Art
Juried by Tim Parsley
October 24 - November 17, 2024
Sometimes small things can be quite powerful. Consider:
Bruce Lee’s iconic “One-inch punch”
The “snowball effect” resulting in an avalanche
Stepping barefoot onto a Lego piece
This same is true for small works of art. Of the various visual strategies used by artists, scale is a particularly dynamic strategy that, when leveraged effectively, often has a corporal impact on the viewer: a very large-scale work causes us to physically step back to take it all in… whereas a small-scale piece pulls us close, inviting an intimate encounter with the work. Artlink is pleased to offer an exhibition exploring and celebrating the focused power of small works of art, reflecting Van Gogh’s sentiment that, “Great things are done by a series of small things brought together.”
